Overview
Creag Chòinnich is a small but striking hill rising just east of Braemar. Though only 538 meters (1,765 feet) high, its steep ascent makes for a challenging but rewarding hike. The well-marked 2.5 km (1.5-mile) circular trail winds through ancient pinewoods before opening up to reveal stunning views over Braemar, the Deeside valley, and the surrounding Cairngorm peaks.
Historically, Creag Chòinnich was the site of traditional hill races dating back to the 17th century, where runners would dash to the summit and back. Today, it remains a popular short hike for those looking for a quick but dramatic viewpoint over the Highlands.
