The Braemar Gathering

The Braemar Gathering is Scotland’s most prestigious Highland Games, held annually on the first Saturday of September. With origins dating back over 900 years, the event showcases traditional Highland sports, music, and dance, attracting thousands of visitors each year—including the British Royal Family, who have attended since the reign of Queen Victoria.

Visitors can witness thrilling caber tossing, tug-of-war, hammer throwing, and Highland dancing, along with performances by mass pipe bands and Scottish athletes competing in ancient sporting events. The Braemar Highland Games Centre, open from June to October, offers an exhibition on the history of the Games and the Royal Family’s connection to the event.
